I think I can! I think I can!
I have been working out fairly consistently at a gym for the past several months and have really started to feel stronger and more energized...who knew? So high on an endorphin flow, I have decided to start training for a triathlon. I did a sprint triathlon, called My First Triathlon, in British Columbia in August of 2002 with several girlfriends and while I sucked wind running, I didn't die. This time I am aiming for an Olympic triathlon. I did some research and found several training programs at www.beginnertriathlete.com. I am doing a 16 week - run focused Olympic Triathlon training program. In addition to my normal strength training routine (today was shoulders and triceps) I ran on the treadmill for 24 minutes, not including the warm up and cool down. I was impressed because I was sure I was going to have to break the run up into 2 or 3 segments with a brief rest in between but I ran the solid 24 minutes at 5.5 mph and covered about 2.5 miles. I am excited! My left knee hurt a bit but nothing to hold me down and I don't feel sore now. I don't know what triathlon I will be participating in as there is a good chance I will be moving back to the Seattle area by August or September. I will figure that out as 16 weeks gets closer.
On a totally unrelated note, Audrey scored three goals at her soccer game this evening. Go Blue Bombers! I had all four kids there by myself as Duane is out of town. I went to the field with 4 kids and came home with 4 kids so I consider that a success. We completed the night with a Hot and Ready $5 pizza for the kids from Little Caesars. It doesn't get easier or cheaper!
